Munich University of Applied Sciences
Welcome! I’m glad you’re here. My work lives at the intersection of academic research and practical application - always driven by the goal of making complex technology useful, fair, and human-centric.
As a professor, I explore how AI systems can better understand the nuances of data—whether that data is spoken, written, or even planetary. My current research and teaching focus on:
Large Language Models (LLMs) & Generative AI: I investigate how these models perceive social structures—from regional biases to broader societal inequities—and how we can build more transparent and equitable systems.
Audio & Music Intelligence: I specialize in Music Information Retrieval (MIR) and speech recognition, with a particular focus on the unique complexities of the singing voice and human expression.
AI for Global Challenges: I apply machine learning to unconventional fields, such as social media analysis and geosciences, e.g. to improve crisis management.
I am a firm believer in science communication; I frequently share my findings through media contributions to help bridge the gap between research and the public. In the classroom, I am dedicated to training the next generation of experts to think both technically and ethically about the tools they build.
Beyond the university, I am frequently invited by companies, NGOs, and international conferences to provide clarity in the rapidly evolving world of Generative AI. I help organizations move past the hype by providing grounded, actionable insights into AI foundations and current developments, specifically regarding Large Language Models.
I offer:
LLM & Generative AI Keynotes: Cutting through the noise to explain what these models mean for your industry and how to use them responsibly.
Interactive Workshops: Hands-on sessions designed to build internal AI literacy and practical competence.
Strategic Consulting: Guiding the meaningful and responsible integration of AI and LLMs into professional workflows.
When I’m not in the lab or the lecture hall, you’ll usually find me involved in music and theater projects. These creative outlets are a vital part of who I am - they provide a fresh perspective that often sparks new ideas for my technical work and keeps me balanced.
